Paul Reed Smith PRS DGT David Grissom model with Quilt 10 Top Electric Guitar..Flamethrower!!

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community

Pros:Sweet Tones Throughout

Cons:None

The Bottom Line: The PRS DGT sets the standard for a dual humbucker solid body guitar.

Since 1985 Paul Reed Smith has established a new standard for the American guitar maker that has not been exceeded though attempts have been made forcing all independents to raise their game.  PRS goes the extra mile on their entire product to the extent that he invites his customers to his factory in Stevensville Maryland annually, allowing free access to his factory where you can see the manufacturing process up close for his Paul Reed Smith Experience. Having been to all but one, it’s an annual event that I probably will never miss, primarily because it gives me the opportunity to see new models up close all at the same time and place, hear demonstrations and sit in on clinics with some of his signature artist.

Among the many artist set of grace the stage at the PRS Experience annually  has been David Grissom,  the esteemed session musician and lead guitarist for Storyville.  A generous and knowledgeable resource David Grissom holds clinics annually at the Paul Reed Smith Experience featuring his signature David Grissom  (DGT)Tremolo model.

When you listen to a professional artist’s tone, it's not hard to walk away and feel a bit frustrated that you can't reproduce it. Often professional artists tweak standard off-the-shelf models to the extent that they're virtually unrecognizable to manufacturer; not so with the Paul Reed Smith DGT. After years of sitting and playing, listening and agonizing over the DGT I just pulled the trigger and bought one  and all I can say is WOW, this thing is a flamethrower!

The DGT is a mahogany guitar with a maple carved top, the mahogany back featuring 22 frets on a 25 inch scale length neck.  Featuring a Rosewood fretboard, with moon inlay, the neck on the DGT gives you access all the way up to the 22nd fret, much like a SG. A  PRS nickel tremolo bridge is complemented by faux bone locking tuners, like the Standard Model,  that keep the DGT in tune no matter how aggressive you use the trem bar.

Twin proprietary DGT treble and bass pickups provide the canvass from which the single tone control , that incidentally really works, coupled with a three way pickup selector toggle that allow you to venture into sweet clean tone reminiscent of a Hendrix- like “Angel “ tines to raucous Southern Rock, Country Blues and even Classic Rock. I really can't say that I've ever heard a single guitar so perfect for all the genres that didn't have to be customized.  If you pick up any DGT model off the rack this is precisely what you get. Paul Reed Smith has been known for consistency throughout his product line; just walk through  his factory and the evidence is everywhere that Paul Reed Smith himself overlooks all facets of manufacturing in this factory that runs like a Swiss clock.

I can’t speak highly enough for the versatility of this guitar. It seems to pull off aggressive yet easily manageable grit with feedback by simply raising volumes but add a drive pedal and possibilities open up. I’ve played the PRS DGT in front of all my amps, again much like the Standard and each has its own different take on the DGT, but the jumbo fretted DGT puts a spank on each of them with the authoritative sophistication and southern charm that is David Grissom. Meet David Grissom, ask him about his guitar and he can do 10 minutes on pickup winding, controls, neck…whatever. It’s becomes instantly obvious that he has labored obsessively on his signature model and it shows, I LOVE this guitar!
