Is it too late to get my A4 back?

Pros: Room, comfort, stereo
Cons: uneven interior, performance
The Bottom Line: If you feel you have to buy a Ford then buy this one.

We got this car to hide some upside down money in a truck we had no room for. That is really the only reason you would go to Ford, to get 1,000's of $ of the price of the car.

The Fusion is Ford's attempt at chipping away at the mid size sedan segment occupied by the twin towers of Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, fellas take it easy, you're safe.

I will say this the car is an improvement and Ford are moving in the right direction. But, there are still issues.

Driving
In a straight line the car is very comfortable, the engine is quiet and smooth. Now taking corners and bends, that is another issue. The front end is heavy and the steering is pretty indecisive when you have to dive into a corner quickly.
I had an Audi A4 previously and even though I know they are in a different class this car is meant to be in the sporty mid size market along with the Mazda6, Honda Accord and Hyundai thingy. Pickup from a standing start just sounds funny, the 6 speed automatic makes way too much noise and clunks its way into top gear with a breathless rasp. This engine has 221 hp, it is a shame is does not have the gearing to use it.
Economy is so so, 20 around town and 28 on a run.

Interior
This is where the car gets a little schizo. I have the SEL trim and when you sit in the car it does feel like its a classy sedan. Nice seats, nice feel to the leather steering wheel, overall not too bad. Then you look at all the switchgear.
Let me tell you, for the love of Pete, PLEASE look at the way that VW/AUDI does their on board computer. Simple can be elegant, the Fusion information display is akin to Robbie the Robot. The salesman had absolutely no idea how it worked, and I only figured it out because I have 20 years in the computer industry and we like all that crap.
The temp display for external is on the climate control when it should be with the information about the car (mileage, doors open etc) the display itself looks cheap and seems to come from a 15 year old calculator.
The climate control buttons are small and hard to use. The best gauges and switches in the world are made by BMW. Ford do yourself a favour, copy them and make them with cheaper material if you like, but abandon this idea that you have to be different and edgy. Quality and ease of use is what sells us customers on a car, not trend setting design and confusion.

Seats are comfy, but cannot get the drivers seat into a position I like. If you are going to have a power seat, then why not let it be really adjustable.
Another Tip - Get rid of that storage thingy built into the dashboard, it looks cheap and the vinyl that covers it will split.

Stereo was nice, x6 Cd/MP3 player and fairly good speakers.

Exterior

Looks okay, not in love with the grill or the high rear sill, but the trunk is a fair size. Must admit I am partial to a full size spare, once again being spoiled by Audi.

Thoughts

This car was $25,500. It puts it right there in Accord Camry territory. If I had my druthers, there is no way on this earth I would choose this car over an Accord, Camry or Sonata, just because I bought your car Mr. Ford, it doesn't mean I liked it.

Ford's cheapiness extends to the paltry 36,000 miles warranty, 4 years or 48,000 miles seems industry standard these days.
So this car is okay, next time I will spring the extra 5 grand and get another Audi. If I was looking for an affordable, reliable, well equipped car in this price range I would look at the Mazda 6, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata and maybe the VW Jetta. BUT this is a move in the right direction, it's just that there is still a way's to go.

Better Mr. Ford, must do better.
