I actually wasn't paying much attention to the radio faceplate. But now that you mention it, when is Detroit going to realize that separate faceplates for each component cheapen the whole interior? You won't find any in a $15,000 Mazda3.
I guess it's progress that many Detroit models now do without such faceplates. All of them used to have the things.

I doubt... (Reply to this comment)

... that Mercury will make it to the end of the next decade. Maybe even this one. Unless Lincoln moves further upscale--a la Cadillac--and donates some of its "entry-level" models (LS, Aviator) to Mercury, the middle brand's only identity will continue to be: "we sell Fords with different grilles."
That radio faceplate looks like a $10,000 car's because it is. As you may be aware, it's straight out of a Ford Focus.
What puzzles me is why Mercury doesn't gain some brand equity by bringing back the Cougar. Even if it was just a re-grilled Mustang. Or how about a real Marauder based on the Lincoln LS V8?
