My Fragrance Foibles
You should know I am not a fragrance guy--never have been. That's not to say I don't enjoy a good perfume, but I'm so incredibly sensitive to smell that I actually avoid the Nordstrom entrance by the fragrance section and walk another 100 yards to avoid the scene.
It's not a snotty thing (forgive the pun) but I can actually get headaches from very strong fragrances, and on rare occasions, if the conditions are right, I'll get an all-out migraine.
So, I usually just avoid the whole darn thing. I find a deodorant with a mild fragrance--usually a 'secretive' women's brand, believe it or not--and go on my way. In my work I don't undergo undo (or any, as a software developer) physical exertion, so I don't worry about unnerving or unexpected embarrassment.
Carolina Comes into My Life
On the few occasions that I actually enjoy a fragrance, it's mild and subtle--and Carolina 212 definitely is that. I happened across it as a gift from an in-law, and was at first as sceptical as any guy getting cologne as a gift. But I was soon very surprised.
They said it had essence of grapefruit and mandarine orange, which would give it a citrus base. I appreciate its mild and gentle composition and its absence of an 'aftertaste', which many stronger fragrances leave behind (for me, anyway).
Because I'm very conservative in it use, I especially appreciate the fine spray mist nozzle. I'll spray it once into the air and quickly walk through it to apply. I've been told this isn't the way a 'man' puts on his cologne, but I don't much care about that. I've found that the scent actually has a different completion when I spray it directly on my skin. Furthermore, I expect my method will prolong its useful life for years to come.
Conclusion
This is only one of two fragrances I'd suggest as gifts, the other being 'Herrera for Men', which is my first and finest choice and the only cologne I'll actually purchase myself. These two are truly classy fragrances that complement a man's rough exterior.
Ladies, if you're shopping for your man, this definitely is a father's day winner that could be as much gift for you as it is your spouse.
