| sg7766's Full Review: Dell Dimension 2400 (2400-PROMO) PC Desktop |
Got the 2400 (with 2.5 GHz CPU) from Dell small-business Web site. I'm hoping that, if I need service, it will come from U.S. help desk, not the offshore disaster that consumer customers are stuck with. Ordered on Wednesday night, got e-mail confirmation Friday, order was on my porch Monday. $100 rebate check arrived a few weeks later. Out of the box, with 128 Mb RAM, it was dreadfully slow - grinds on the disk for 30 sec. just to start Notepad! But I expected this - Windows XP uses over 100 Mbytes for its own fat posterior, plus the onboard video uses some RAM. Bought 512 Mbytes from crucial.com (much cheaper than Dell), took 30 sec. to plug it in, now it works great.
