Dell Dimension 2400 came with Windows XP Home, 2.4GHz, 845GV chipset, 128MB DDR SDRAM 333MHz. The system offers acceptable application performance for students, small-business owners and home-office dwellers.The two-tone case (colored "storm gray on midnight gray" by Dell's description) accommodates two 5.25-inch drives and one 3.5-inch drive. My system came with a CDR and a CDRW. There was no floppy drive.The quick-release side panel, which you can close more securely with a single thumbscrew, provides easy access to the system's small but clean interior.Standard legacy ports adorn the system's rear panel, along with four USB 2.0 ports. A 10/100 Ethernet port is integrated onto the motherboard, as are the audio ports. A modem PCI card provides RJ-11 in and out connections for dial-up Internet surfers. On the front panel, there are two more USB 2.0 ports and a headphone jack.No AGP slot for dedicated graphics card. With integrated graphics and no AGP slot for upgrading, you shouldn’t nurture any dreams of turning the 2400 into a multimedia powerhouse.
The application which came with the system are Microsoft Money , Wordperfect Office Suite , Sonic Recordnow among others, McFee anti virus software for 3 months.I am used to Microsoft Office and found Wordperfect Office Suite cumbersome.Sonic Recordnow has an easy interface. I like Norton much better than McFee. What I did was wipe clean the pre installed software and installed the ones I like. Also I upgraded the ram with a 512 PC 2700 SDRAM and thus increaded the performance . The system has two slots for RAM thus the maximum you can upgrade is 1024MB.
