Pros: A good basic monitor
The Gem 170B 17 inch LCD display is a typical display unit that performs well.
I bought this brand because it had a significant rebate, bringing the cost to under $200, my benchmark for buying inexpensive 17" displays.
Installation: The out of box experience was unremarkable. I was able to easily identify the data connection and power connection and start using the monitor. in Windows XP, no drivers were necessary.
Display Resolution: this 450:1 contrast ration display supports a maximum display of 1280 x 1024, and does so with a clear, bright image.
Durability: This display arrived with one partial bad pixel, and I did not attempt to have the unit replaced, as this is a workstation and the problem is essentially unnoticed.
Sound: The unit does not have integral speakers, but does APPEAR to, due to the grill holes on the right and left bottom edges.
