| ardell's Full Review: LGDVT418 Theater System |
I recently acquired the LG LGDVT418 Home Theater in a Box System. First let me get to the Specs.
Specs
-Total output: 600 watts (receiver: 90W x 5 @ 6 ohms, 10% THD; subwoofer: 150W @ 6 ohms, 10% THD)
- DVD Player supports DVD-Video, DVD-Audio. DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, Kodak Picture CD, MP3, WMA and JPEG formats.
- 8 DSP Soundfields
-Digital AM/FM tuner with 50 station presets
-5 matched satellite speakers each with 2.2" mid-range and 0.5" tweeter; 8" passive subwoofer
-Inputs: 1 optical digital, 1 coaxial digital, 1 analog audio, 1 video
- Outputs: 1 S-video, 1 component video, 1 composite video, 1 headphone
Setup
Right out of the the box the setup was straight forward and simple. Included with the system is plenty of speaker wire. I do however recommend upgrading to 12 gauge wire as the standard wire I think is 16 gauge. All of the connections on the receiver are well laid out. With about a hour of work you should be up and running watching movies in 5.1 surround sound.
Features
One the coolest features of this HTIB is the ability to adjust the distance of the speakers relative to the listening position via a menu in the setup section of the receiver. In layman's term it allows you to: i.e. adjust for the right speaker being 1.5 ft closer to you than the left speaker is.
Another neat feature of the system is the DSP soundfields (i.e. Dance, Rock, Jazz, Concert Hall). Listening to a CD with 5 speakers and a subwoofer playing almost seems like you are there seeing the event live.
The speakers themselves are great. I have heard better but at this price point there are none better. This system is on par with names such as Infinity and Onyko. The four speaker come with their own stands, which was one the major reasons I purchased this unit.
By far the best feature is the ability to play DVD Audio CD's. There are not a lot of DVD Audio CD's available. DVD Audio takes full advantage of Dolby Digital 5.1 Imagine listening to a CD and hearing sounds coming at you from the left, right, behind you at different times. It's a new experience in listening to music.
The DVD player handled every kind of media I threw at it. I have to admit I was worried that the DVD player would not play my extensive collection of DVD-R's. It played everything without even as much as a hiccup.
Gripes
- The speaker stands themselves are a little flimsy. One fall and they could possibly break
- Speaker wire included is only 16 gauge (Recommend 12 gauge)
- No audio outputs. The reason I am complaining is because I want to run Bass Shakers in my home theater and have no way of getting the audio signal to the Bass Shaker amp.
Conclusion
This is a great system for the beginner in Home Theater. Everything is included to make installation a breeze. Overall quality of construction is superb.
