This MoBo NOT compatible with WIndowsXP SP3 (Reply to this comment)

Company supplies no support, and opensly states it has no intention to do so. Users are forced to avoid compliance with Microsoft maintenance update recommendations.
Your review references "the lack of usable technical support by Asus." Isn't this reason enough to utterly avoid ASUS products? Why buy from a company that could care less about supporting its users under circumstances where known problems exist?

I am glad I could save you the expense. Long-term you might keep it in mind though, as the A8N SLI has been chosen by AMD as the reference board for the new Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor which also brings DDR2 support to the A8N SLI.

Nice Review - I'm holding off on buying now! (Reply to this comment)

I was just about to order the ASUS A8N until I read your review. Thank you! I was under the impression that I could simply plug in my old hard drive, which is obviously not the case. I'm going to hold off until I can do a total rebuild. I was also very surprised to see that it only supports very expensive video cards. I had even gone out and purchased two geForce 5500fx, which, apparently, will not work. I thus get to have the enjoyable experience of trying to return one at Fry's.

Thanks. I am enjoying it but teaching WindowsXP to completely boot from SATA was quite an endeavor and it sure didn't help that my graphics board died quickly. I am still working on that x800 review but decided to wait before rating it. (It's right now between 4 stars or 1 star due to the issue described above.)
Regarding WindowsXP Prof. 64bit, I think there is an inofficial release date now ... end of April 2005.

Congratulations on your very nice system build. I am still waiting for full release of Windows 64 before I jump on the hardware bandwagon, myself. Looking forward to more reviews of this system!
