Well, not the best music video but Breakthrough Video and group video. :-)

Time to buy this CD album for a change (clears throat) (Reply to this comment)
by wizguy
Yes, "The Scientist," and everything you've wrote. Fabulous review. Time for me to come out of the mp3 cave and shop at local music stores. I only wish that they start to sell the music video for a change. I think they'll win the best Music video award this year. Any thoughts?

They proved with this album that they were not another Radiohead rip-off.

It makes fine sense and you're right. I was in the hard rock mode of Pearl Jam and Audioslave. This disk has mellowed me out a bit but it took some time.

Thank you for the prodding!

"Damn good disc."
Yup. You said it all there. I guess maybe I should have qualified my statement. I guess it depends on your musical background as to whether or not you'll love the whole thing. Personally, it meshed well into what I usually listen to. But--say--for somebody looking for the next nine inch nails, they'll probably be less than impressed.
Make sense? If not, blame it on my own mushy brain.

I agree with everything you said except the, "On first listen you'll love it" epinion.
On first listen I liked tracks 1-5 and then the rest of the disk started to mush together. But on the 3rd-4th listen I was in love with the whole disk except Whisper, A.
But you're right, a damn good disk

Blood Rushing.... (Reply to this comment)

This album has been growing on me since I first picked it up last Labor Day...last week it didn't leave my car's CD player all week. I'm glad some of the tracks are receiving more airtime, but almost wish they would have kept "The Scientist" as my own little gem. Just for me.
Great review of course--but that's why you're the best.

This Album is Like Cotton Candy. (Reply to this comment)
by divad23
Be careful - this thing sounds impressive first and then it kind of grows off you, if that makes any sense. I still like it, but I'm not blown away by a few of the songs as I was when I first heard it. Tough to explain.
Anyway, I'm surprised you liked this one, especially as much as you did. But I'm not complaining.
A year later, "Clocks" has taken over as my favorite song on the disc, with "The Scientist" at second due to how it tugs at the heartstrings, and "Daylight" just because it's cool, catchy, and underappreciated.

Ahh Coldplay (Reply to this comment)
by hiimfred
Yes, I got into the Coldplay scene around September and yes, I'm glad you found them as well. They are something that is really worthwhile. I keep on hearing that their energy is amazing and that the songs will just have new meanings if you see them in concert. I have yet to, but I'm going to definitely try when they come back 'round.
Nice review, and I agree. I don't think Scientist is the best, but I can see why you'd think that seeing as though that's the song that got you into them.

WOO-HAH!! Glad you like it! :) I deliberately "left" the CD in Dad's truck when I borrowed it not too long ago. I keep wondering if he's heard it by now...

The Scientist is wonderful. I think it's the best song here...
Of course I can't agree with you sister about the album as a whole being an effort rather than an accomplishment. Though as you are a massive fan of Parachutes I can understand where you are coming from.
See...this is WHY YOU HAVE TO WRITE HERE!

..try and catch them live next time they tour. I wasnt that keen on their records until I saw them at T in the Park this year, and they really do kick live. Their new songs are promising too.
Great job

The Scientist... (Reply to this comment)
by clle46
...although I agree that The Scientist is a brilliant song, I tend to disagree about the rest of the album. Whereas Parachutes genuinely had a stroke of genius running through every song, nearly each song on Rush seems to have been written to be a hit. It is just hook after hook, introspective lyric after lyric, and it irks me. Perhaps it is merely second album syndrome - when the record company stresses the need for hits, not the need for good-n-proper music. This isn't, of course, to say that this album is poor, but it is full of effort rather than inspiration and thus, Coldplay can do better.

Coldplay (Reply to this comment)

Has always been sort of a "cool, airy and aural" type of band to me. Their music is ambient and very well played.
I especially like The Scientist, like you do, and also like Yellow.
Thanks for the review.

I think I got to the Coldplay party a little early, and I took off just as everybody was getting there. Maybe I should come back though - it sounds like a jumpin' party.

It seems like I'm always ahead of the curve with American bands, but always lag behind those from across the pond. I showed up late to the Radiohead party and I'm just getting into Coldplay. I like what I've heard so far and your review makes me more inspired to get my hands on more. Thanks for a great review.

Nice to see someone else getting into Coldplay, and nice to see you enjoyed it so much. You should definitely get Parachutes if you don't have it already, it's basically the same, if a little mellower.
Great review as usual
