chicknyell's Full Review: Absolut Vodka Citron - 1 liter
(I will include this with all my review on Vodka. If you read another of mine on Vodka, then skip to the details. Vodka is the most pure alcohol drink. Unless it is flavored, Vodka usually is simply pure ethanol and water. Flavors can be added to make gin. Vodka is devoid of fusel oils. These are other alcohols besides ethanol, such as propanol and other molecules, which are contained in many spirits such as rum or whiskey. In large (or even small) quantities in some individuals, these can be quite toxic and even deadly. This is why vodka is one of the safest and pure choices for new drinkers and experienced ones alike. If you are allergic to alcohol, then you will be allergic to all drinks. But if you aren't then vodka is a sure bet drink, whereas you could be allergic to fusel oils or flavors in other spirits. I learned this in drugs and behavior class and thought I would share. Now, on to the specific brand.)
This alcohol does have flavors added to the finished product, but it is still rather pure. Absolut Citron is a citrus flavored vodka with a more impressive aroma than taste. But smell is an important part of taste, and this vodka is extremely good to make citrus drinks with.
While there is flavoring added to the vodka, it is not an overwhelming flavor. Instead, it is a soft addition to the rather tasteless vodka. This makes vodka drinking a bit more enjoyable, as a rather tasteless, odorless spirit finally has its own enjoyable flavor.
Of course, the citrus flavor makes this drink rather limited as to what it can be mixed with, but you probably would have a drink in mind when you purchase the liquor. Drinks such as vodka and lemonade or vodka and limeade taste much more citrus-like with this vodka, and the choking effect of the alcohol can be eliminated.
But here is a little known use of this flavored jewel. Try mixing a vodka tonic with absolut citron instead of gin or plain vodka. This eliminates the need to use a lime, and you can keep maximum carbonation from the tonic water. You can enjoy this with a meal or with some fruit.
So if you are feeling like trying something unique, try one of Absolut's flavored vodkas. The citron type is by far my favorite, though. If you like citrus, you will like the taste of Citron. But don't drink too much, it's still alcohol!
