| wien976's Full Review: Acer TravelMate 800XCi (LX.T2506.057) PC Notebook |
This notebook computer has EXCEEDED my expectations in many ways. First off, it's slim (1") and lightweight (2.5kg) - both concepts which were foreign to me after owning a Vaio. The screen is vibrant, the keys are easy to adapt to and feel solid. The touchpad is responsive, and the scroll key between the mouse buttons, as it makes viewing documents and webpages much easier. Also, the quick keys at the top of the keyboard are extremely easy to change, program and use. I use the E-Mail and WWW shortcuts every single time I power up.
The integrated wireless gets a decent signal, and has performed well at every wireless hotspot I've tried thus far. Acer's website has EASY to navigate support with downloads and everything explained clearly.
Acer customer care is very attentive, and rarely has a hold time from my experience - and I've called five or six times with questions. They helped me figure out why my router wasn't working with the wireless and helped me get it up and running. I've never had to hold more than about 5 minutes, and the people are VERY friendly (probably because they're in Texas and not outsourced to some other country).
The battery life on the Acer is excellent - about 3-5 hours depending on how many applications are running. Plenty of time to watch a good DVD. I usually listen to music (mp3s) while browsing the net and running chat applications like Yahoo Messenger and AIM, so the battery for me lasts around 3.5 to 4 hours. EXCELLENT!
The pre-installed software is practical and effective. I really was grateful to find "NTI CD-Maker 2000 Plus" on the system, as I like to burn CDs and the Windows burning application seems to screw up too often (go figure, a Microsoft app that doesn't always work?!!) and it's done fine so far (burned about 5 CDs).
I love this system for so many reasons! My Dad has the Acer Apsire 2000, which is the PIMP of all Acers, but until I can afford one of those, I'm very very happy with this TravelMate 800XCi!
UPDATE: Though this unit is still performing quite well, I was able to find another model of Acer which I will be keeping and I will be selling this one. I hate to see it go, since it's been a great notebook, but the other Acer is also wonderful. I'll be writing a review on that one soon.
