| MrBlues's Full Review: Sharper Image Ionic Breeze GP SI730 Air Purifier |
I've been using the Ionic Breeze GP for about 5 weeks now. The unit is in my bedroom and it collects a surprising amount of dust and allergens. I can happily report that my allergies are much better since installing the IB. And this during a spring with above normal pollen levels in this area.
I had been using a fan driven HEPA filter for several years without seeing any big improvement in my allergies. The Ionic Breeze seems to collect more dust/allergens in a week than the HEPA did in a month. And it does so silently, which is a big plus. It also has low power consumption, especially when operated with the UV light turned off.
Even though I've read numerous accounts from users who praised the Ionic Breeze air cleaners, I was skeptical of how effective they'd really be. Their low air flow led me to think that any cleaning they'd accomplish would be very limited. But my experience is that the electrostatic collection grids pick up a lot of particulates. And even though the air flow is low, the fact that it operates 24/7 apparently allows it to scrub the air in my bedroom sufficiently to reduce my allergy symptoms to the point that I'm rarely bothered and I can get a good night's sleep in the spring and fall allergy seasons. And I don't have to hear that annoying noisy fan that the old HEPA unit used.
The retail price of $500 makes the Ionic Breeze GP one of the more expensive home air cleaners on the market. But they're readily available at reduced prices for reconditioned units that still come with the full 5 year warranty. Even though mine is "reconditioned", I could find no flaws and it works as well as a brand new unit.
