A little background to understand how much I appreciate this little honey of an air cleaner.
I moved to Cleveland 4 years ago and found the best apartment anyone has heard of. 3,000 sq ft, 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms and 3 extra closets with steam-heat and hot water paid for. I'm on the top floor, so I never hear anybody. About 2 years ago, the neighbors below me moved out, and were quickly replaced by an elderly lady and her 2 grown sons.
I woke up one of the firsts nights they lived there, and nearly called the fire department. 3 am I wake to the smell of smoke, but I couldn't see any. The son that uses the bedroom below mine smokes like a chimney!! My old building apparently does not have much in between us, as the smoke would stink up the room. I've never heard of anything like it.
About 1 week had passed and I was waking up with puffy eyes 2 hours earlier than normal. Out of disgust, I began packing. The next day, out of desperation, I turned to my faithful friend, ebay. Sharper Image has a store on Ebay, and I purchased the large Ionic Breeze Quadra GP. I figured if I were to move into a different apartment, this would be large enough for nearly any room.
The first night, I have to admit even on the lowest setting there was something that irritated breathing a bit. My bedroom is 20x17 and between the doors and old windows, I have some air exchange, but there is something that's ...odd. Would I trade it? Not a chance.
I no longer run it through the night. When I get up in the morning I turn it on and leave it on all day. I come home and the room smells fresh (he's unemployed, so it's working it's tail off). I leave it on until I go to bed. Occasionally if I get up to use the bathroom I will turn it on for a few moments and clear up whatever he smoked through Conan O'brien.
I love it, love it, love it, love it. I decided to give up candles all together with the warnings they give about the buildup. For me it wasn't hard...I'm a guy. I clean it about once every 10 days, and in the past 1.5 years, I've only heard it "spark" once.
I have recommended them to friends and family, but nobody has been willing to take the plunge. If I didn't care for mine so much, I would let them borrow it for a week to convince them.
