| toiletoctopus's Full Review: Aiwa XP-EV501R Personal CD Player |
Aiwa is a Japanese electronics company, and it has been around for a long time. Since its creation in 1951, it has been one of Japan's innovators in technology. While it does not have the name recognition of Toshiba or Sony, it is just as good in quality control. Aiwa was Japan's first company to manufacture a cassette tape recorder, first stereo cassette deck, and digital tape products. That is why you can know when you purchase a Aiwas product, you are getting established quality.
This CD player works great. It has a long battery life (estimated at 50 hours), and great sound. The extra bass feature works really well, and the device looks very modern. Its shiny silver with a bluish tint LCD screen, which displays the track number and time. (Very easy to read!) Its very portable, weighing only 6.6 ounces and mearuring 5"x5"x.9". The buttons are very easy to manipulate, and on the unit are these buttons: Play, Forward, Rewind, and Stop. There is also a random play button, and the standard in ear headphones that come with it produce great sound.(They also block out environmental sounds such as birds, cars, and trains very well!) The circular unit is ergonimically comfortable to carry, and it can slip easily in a decent sized jacket pocket. The sound is teriffic. The bass really kicks up when you use the superbass, and it still is good without it. The overall sound is comparable to being in a theater-the music comes out very clear and loud depending on what volume you want. The highest volume is very loud!
My only complaint is that the unit does not come standard with a car kit. However, at this price its not worth complaining about. The unit is very durable, and I have dropped it and still was able to play music. Just don't get it in the water-its not waterproof! I like this unit, and its great for trips or walks in the park. With its good locks, great sound, and ease of use it gets an outstanding rating from me. It comes with a one year warranty, and Aiwa can be reached through their website, AIWA.com. They have a customer service number, which is 1-800-289-AIWA, and their mailing address for U.S. customers is: 12451 Gateway Blvd Ft.Myers, FL 33913.
