| mr_chupon99's Full Review: Aiwa XP-V732 Personal CD Player |
I've come across many discmans in my time. Most of them Sony's, one Rio, one iRiver, and one Aiwa. You can tell from my other reviews that the Sony models bit because in order to expand the battery life, the amplifier in the Discman's weren't powerful enough to give any decent volume, making Subway listenings impossible without serious distortion. The Rio was bulky, and it's skip protection bit, but it could play MP3 CDs without too many problems (although it choked on bit Variable Bit Rate files). My latest purchase was an AIWA because it was cheap, but not too cheap. And I got exactly what I wanted. No car kit, no radio. Just a barebones player with some mediocre headphones (backphones), batteries not included (it can recharge batteries, and comes with an adapter). The volume gets you nice and loud (enough to drown out Subway ambience), and only gets slightly fuzzy with bass boost on at Maximum volume. The highest volume setting is 22, and I keep it at 16 for walking around the city, and 20 when I'm on the subway.
The 48 second anti-skip sounds lame, but I haven't had a time where I had to stop walking to allow the player to recache information. Every now and then (like when running for the bus) you will get a hiccup, but it fixes itself even when still getting jostled around.
It takes 2 AA batteries, and makes them work for a long time. I bought the player 5 weeks ago, and have used it to and from work almost every single day. If I had to put the amount of time I've worked those batteries for, I'd say it's been about 36 have elapsed, and the batteries are still going.
For the slim charge, this is a CD player for anyone who just wants a CD player with no frills, but wants it to work well. You can lose this player and not be set back too far either, which is peace of mind.
The only downs to it is the seek time when you turn it on, and when you have it on Shuffle play.
