cjdavia's Full Review: Altec Lansing VS4121 2 Speakers
I purchased this set over the weekend because Altec Lansing has a reputation for creating great PC speakers, I liked the way they looked, and I liked their price.
After setting the speakers up, I listened to some of my favorite music. Unfortunately I was disappointed with how it sounded. The bass was overdone and sloppy, there was an over abundance low freqs, which caused the midranges to sound muffled to me... sort of like I was at a concert and listening with my hands over my ears.
I was really motivated to make these speakers sound better because the store where I purchased the speakers is an hour away. I tweaked my equalizer settings by lowering the lows and upping the highs. This helped quite a bit but I was still not happy. I exchanged them for the Altec Lansing FX4021, which costs nearly twice as much.
I am very happy with the FX4021s. Right out of the box the base sounded cleaner and the mids, while not perfect, are much, much better. A few tweaks to my EQ made them sound even better.
My opinion is that 4121s are a good looking, affordable set of speakers made for gamers and people who prefer a lot of bass and don't care too much for the midrange/vocals. If your preference the midrange, I'd go for the 4021s.
When it comes to awesome performance in a compact design, few speaker systems compare to the VS4121BLK. You’ve got to hear it to believe it.More at TigerDirect.com
