wogerwabbit9's Full Review: Altec Lansing VS4121 2 Speakers
I have a 32 inch LCD tv which I sometimes connect to my computer to stream shows off netflix. The TV speakers aren't that great either. But then again I did not want to spend too much money on a home theater system and go overboard. So I wanted to get something which sounded good enough for my decent sized living room, and still looked good.
I initially went with the Bose Companion 2 speakers which sounded great at the store (Best Buy) but when I set up the whole thing in my living room, it didn't sound as great as I expected it to. And for $110 that I paid for it, I expected better.
So I started researching forums, epinions and got some recommendations from my friends and got it down to this model of the Altec Lansing.
I have been very happy with the sound. I paid around $52 on eBay for them. But they blow away the Bose speakers and easily sound like $150 computer speakers. The woofer is great and even though its a little bulky, the sound makes up for it. They have a special set up for the 2 side speakers. Instead of the regular tweeter and mid-range speaker set up, they have additional speakers built into the base of the side speakers too. So you are not only getting a stand for the speakers but additional sound. I love that design and it makes a huge difference I believe.
The speakers are very easy to set up and have treble, bass and volume control right on the side speakers. I tested them in Frys before I bought them on eBay and believe me, I tested them. I was blasting music at full volume in the speaker section and they just would NOT crack at all. I compared it to other speakers in the same range (retail: $75 from store) like Sony, Logitech and they would crack at higher volumes.
All in all, a great purchase at a great price. Go eBay! :)
So in short:
The Good Stuff: Great Sound: Sound like $150 speakers. Don't crack even at max volume. Easy Set Up: Super easy set up. Just plug it in and you are ready to go Controls on side speakers: Individual Treble, Bass and Volume controls located on the side speaker.
The Not-So-Good Stuff: Woofer a little bulky: The woofer sounds great but is a little bulky.
