| ewads's Full Review: Apex Digital AT2702 27 inch TV |
Buying this tv is similar to buying an imitation designer watch off the street. From a distance, it looks nice. On closer inspection, it's clearly an imitation that's definitely inferior.
1) The screen is supposed to be 27 inches, but there is about a half inch of dark space along the edges of the glass that makes the viewable screen more like 25-26 inches. It's odd that the picture doesn't extend all the way to the edges, but it's nothing to lose sleep over
2) Even though it has two speakers (one on each side of the screen), be aware that the sound is MONO. It looks like it should be a stereo tv, but that's only its appearance
3) The button console on the front of the tv is this plastic fold-out contraption that's very cheap.
4) The picture is below-average. The pre-set picture modes are terrible - I don't know what they were thinking. Manually adjusting brightness/contrast/color makes the picture acceptable, but not good.
On the plus side, it has a few nice attributes for such an inexpensive set:
1) S-Video inputs, 3 RCA inputs and 1 output - that's quite decent optionality!
2) The mono sound is quite good, it's full-sounding with decent bass. Unfortunately, you can't adjust bass or treble.
3) The menus and navigation are intuitive to use with the remote control, which is surprising. I used an Apex DVD player remote before and it was very difficult to navigate.
For the price, I still think it's a bargain, but keep in mind that it's an imitation of higher-quality brands out there.
