Pros: Big Screen, nice design, easy to set-up.
Cons: Quality isn't as good as other projection televisons.
I like buying things that look good, work well, and give you the best bang for your buck. I like to think that Apex is an up and coming manufacturer for electronics in the low budget domain. The Apex GB5108 51 inch projection television is a really nice set for the price.
Dimensions (WxDxH) - 43 in x 22 in x 56 in
Weight - 155 lbs
Now I must admit, this thing is pretty heavy compared to other big screen Televisions. But it is a projection TV and it is expected. The design is very nice so you can store it in many places. It has a good depth to length ratio; good for placing it in your living room. The diagonal size on this TV is 51 inches. The speakers are located on the bottom of the base and do provide decent stereo output.
This item comes with the following features:
Picture in Picture.
I only use this feature to see if another channel is finished from commercials. Its a nice added feature on this television.
Three picture mode (normal, theater, memory) these features allow you to adjust to DVDs and other products that allow you to have the widescreen feature.
480p progressive scan dont really know what this does but the quality for a projection TV is really excellent with this item. Apex has done a good job with a CRT projection television.
Two component video inputs (2YpbPr), one S-Video input, one RF input, two rear AV inputs It has all the normal components of a theater system. It has an adapter that you can buy to use the HDTV feature if you desire. AV inputs, S-Video, all make the hook up an ease. I use S-Video and I have been told it is better quality; but you still need AV for better sound.
Second surface mirror supposedly this reduces added glare that many projections TVs have. The only issue I have is if it is a bright day, the sun may glare a bit off the projection and it may seem like the picture quality is dim.
Universal Remote Control typical remote.
The Apex GB5108 projection TV is an excellent buy for the price. I purchased mine for $800. I dont think youll find any comparables for near this price. All other 51 inch televisions typically run for $1,000 plus. Apex is an up and coming manufacturer in low budget electronics. So far, I am very pleased with their products. The sound, video quality, and ease of use are great. I recommend this product but dont expect Sony or Panasonic quality.
