| kdkurtsz's Full Review: Apple PowerBook G4 15.2 in. (M8980LL/A) Mac Notebo... |
I bought my Powerbook Aug. '05. I am overall happy with its performance, although I have one major problem. Severe warping where my hand rests above the CD drive. I noticed this happening about the first month or so after purchasing. When I shut the case I could tell that the top right side of the bottom case was warping in because the case didnt shut evenly. Being a busy college student with out an apple store around I put my problem on the back burner. The warping didnt become serious until a 14-hour day spent on Photoshop. By this time the PB was a few months old and I was using the touch pad instead of an external mouse... at the beginning of the day I inserted a CD into the drive (which worked fine), by the end of the 14 hours I tried to eject my CD, and the case had warped so much that the CD would not even eject. I had to pry the drive open with a butter knife while someone else pressed eject and grabbed the CD. I brought my problem to the apple store where the accused me of abuse. Stating that there has never been a recorded problem like this and it is not possible without me having had dropped something or slammed something into my computer. I was told it would cost $500+ to fix. I was surprised at this because when demonstrating my hand placement when using the touch pad, my hand fits perfectly into the warp, and even the outside plastic rim is warped down and away from my hand, which makes it obvious that this did not happen in one quick drop or slam. In the meantime I had my dad heat up the case above the drive and use a painters spatchula to essentially reverse warp it. He was able to get it back mostly but not completely, and although I have now been using an external mouse it has returned to its warped state. I know that nothing fell into or was slammed in my computer; I have treated it like my baby, and am very angry at apple for 1. Not taking responsibility, and 2. Accusing me of abuse. I was wondering if anyone else out there has had or seen a problem like this, and if so what they did about it.
