The G3 (Reply to this comment)

First, thanks for visiting my review of my spiffy new G4/DP/450 (which I'm writing this on).
Sadly, the new Pro keyboard isn't much of an improvement over the old one - they retained the bad keyboard touch (something I'm quite sensitive to). In all fairness, though, Macs have never been very good in this regard. This used to be an enormous PC edge back when IBM made its army-tank like indestructable keyboards, but sadly they discontinued them about when they stopped making PS/2s lo these many years ago. Now their keyboards aren't much better than Apple's :-(.
I have noticed an enormous drop in peripheral prices in recent months - stuff like scanners for $ 40, printers for under $200, etc. So it might actually not be cost-effective to add a SCSI card to your post-Beige Mac - you may well be better off with a new scanner and printer than getting your mouldy old ones to work.
(I'm sure it actually was cost-effective at the time you did it - this advice is for any readers of your review who want to take the plunge now).
Hope that was of interest.

Great Review! (Reply to this comment)
by lap0530
I used a Mac for a brief period of time between 1988 and 1990 when I taught at the University of Tennessee. I was impressed even then with the ease of use and the powerful graphics capabilities of the machine. I did my text processing on the PC in my office and my illustrations/graphics on the Mac (which was in a shared area).
I went on to a PC-only, and then to a Windows-only environment, but out of necessity, not choice. It astounds me that people who obviously have never used Machintosh products bash them regularly as slow, underpowered, and inelegant.
You've obviously come to love your Mac, and with good justification. This is a well-written and thorough review from someone who knows whereof she speaks!

about the keyboard and mouse. I use this machine and work and have long since gotten rid of those monstrocities. Other than that, this is a great machine.
And a great review.
Cheers.

I should have known you were a Mac aficionado! No wonder we get along so well. :-) And my husband and I started a graphic design/writing business on a Mac Plus years ago.

...to see a review of the Macintosh by someone who's actually used one, unlike the other review I read earlier tonight.
I agree about the mouse - that's why I've got a Logitech 4-button roller mouse now...
