| markymark84's Full Review: Apple iPod 3rd Generation White (15 GB) MP3 Player |
Apple has done a great job updating the ipod, the design is sleeker, yet has a very solid feel. The new design keeps the ipod look, yet makes the old ipod look a little outdate. Everything about the ipod oozes design, from the minute you open the box. The packaging is great and for first time ipod buyers, will pleasently surprise them. I felt that way when I removed each layer and was reveals with a different ipod accessory. One problem that i had with the design on the ipod, is how easily it is to get dirty. the minute I touched the ipod and the remote it was instantly covered with oil from my hands, I recommend using the case as it will really protect your investment.
As a firewire harddrive this thing was fast, I keep my entire portfolio on this little thing and it still have plenty of room for more. As a PDA is keeps a backup of all my contacts that I synced and works fine it you don't need to impute thing. But I know most people will use this, first and formost for MP3's.
Getting music onto the ipod was very easy with the Mac, but then again it was designed by Apple. One problem that I know everyone faces when they buy an ipod is, how do I get songs from my ipod. Well, my solution was to get a third party program called PodWorks which I store on the ipod itself. It allows me to put songs from my ipod onto any Mac. There are other perfectly good softwares and apple scripts out there it just takes a little researching, I suggest Versiontracker.com (search under ipod). Getting your ipod to work on your mac is one thing, getting it to work with your PC is another.
Let's face it, the ipod was made by Apple so of course it will seemlessly work with it. The included music match software didn't really work for me, I had to reformat my ipod, all my data was lost and I still couldn't get my songs on to it. So I did some researching and came upon a program called Xplay, formally known as Xpod (changed for legal reasons). It allowed me to simply drag my Mp3s on to the ipod, it was fast and easy, just like itunes. So problem 2 was solved.
With my MP3's on my ipod I was ready to go, the ipods controls are very intuative and once you sit down and use the ipod for about 10 minutes you get the feel for it. The remote is a plus but the I was bother by how long the remote and headphones where, I felt like i have about 8 feet of cord. I ended up using minidisc headphones to minimize cord length. All the other accessories were great and I almost felt spoiled by them. The cradle is very solid, will never let your ipod tip over, the firewire cable that double as a charging cable fantatastic, and I love the AC adapter it's like a little ibook adapter with a firewire port. It seems like apple covered all the details. Which really gives it a refined edge over it's competitors.
I hope you liked this review, be sure to check out my others too.
