| rgriffith's Full Review: Apple iPod 3rd Generation White (20 GB) MP3 Player |
A big round of applause for Apples engineers for creating a simply superb portable audio device. It is small, stylish, light-weight, has an abundance of features and a pretty impressive battery life.
The M9244LL/A model comes with plenty of room for your music. This model features a 20GB hard drive which should hold approximately 5,000 songs in Apples AAC format at 128KB (capacity is based on 4 minutes per song in AAC or MP3). This models comes is bundled with an ear bud headphones and remote, carrying case, AC adapter, dock connector to FireWire cable and a 6 pin to 4 pin Firewire adapter.
The iPod can be used with an Apple computer or Windows PC. The iPod holds your music on a hard drive which must be setup. Apple owners would use iTunes to sync with their iPod (free download: http://www.apple.com/itunes/ ). The Mac supports AAC, MP3 (up to 320 Kbps), WAV and AIFF music file formats. The current version is version 4. There is a version of iTunes for Windows also labeled version 4. Additionally, Windows users can install MusicMatch Jukebox (comes with the bundled software). The current version at the time I wrote this article is 8.2, but version 7.5 comes with the iPod. Windows supports MP3 (up to 320 Kbps), WAV file formats.
The iPod does more than play audio files. There are a ton of options you can set including sound check, 20 Equalizer settings, Shuffle songs or albums, Repeat one or all, backlight timer, Display contrast, Display time in menu bar, and date and time. The iPod also features and supports syncing your contacts, calendar and to-do (notes) on both the PC and the Mac. Thats not all; you can rate songs and make On-The-Go playlists. Still hungry for more, it comes bundled with the following games (which you can play while youre still listening to your favorite music). Dont rush out right now and buy one, please be kind and finish reading my article.
The real selling feature for me is the iPods expandability. When buying any electronic device, I like to know that it can grow with my needs and that 3 months down the road I will not have to buy the next model. The iPod is very updatable and has an abundant selection of accessories. I bought the monster cables and use it as part of my stereo system at home. Now, I cant leave it at home by itself (it gets lonely), so I take it on the road and play my music in the car using the Belkin FM transmitter. Then to drown out my co-workers, I plug in my headphones at work. There are a number of other accessories available like a USB connector, World Travel Kit Adapter, Belkin Voice Recorder, Belkin Battery Pack, Remote & Earbud Headphones, Belkin Media Reader, Belkin Car Adapter and various kinds of protective carrying cases. You will need to update your iPod software to version 2.1 to use some of these accessories (http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/)
My final words of wisdom: buy an iPod now. Why are you still sitting there reading, go and buy this iPod!
