I received a 20gb 3rd Generation iPod for my 18th birthday, and I've got to say, it is by far the most innovative, feature-packed music player available on the market. Which is perhaps why the iPod has overwhelming control over the portable music player market.
The iPod is super small, making it super portable. It has an attractively simple white front, and an elegant polished chrome backing. It features a 2" diagonal lcd screen with a customizable backlight for use in the dark. One of the coolest innovations about the third generation iPod is that all controls are completely touch sensitive. It also makes use of a new touch sensitive scroll wheel for easy one-handed use. The controls have their own backlight, which glows red in the dark.
The iPod is superior to any other music player available. With the 20gb hard drive, you can store up to 5,000 songs in either AAC or MP3 format. The 40gb lets you store 10,000 songs. That's like having 1,000 CDs in your pocket. The iPod has an easy to use interface with many, many options. You can browse your music by Artist, Album, Genre, or you can just view all songs at once. The iPod also provides several different equalizer presets for different output effects. You can shuffle and repeat your music with ease. The sound quality that you'll get from the iPod is clear and perfect.
Other fun features of the iPod include several games, an alarm clock, and integrational abilities with portable speaker systems. You can also create custom playlists from the iPod using the On-the-Go feature.
The 3rd Generation iPod provides 8 hours of play on a charge, which isn't bad considering its functionality. It is Mac/PC compatible, and can be plugged in via USB or Firewire. There is seamless integration with iTunes, so that your iPod library will always match your iTunes library, and any playlists created on your computer will be transferred to your iPod as well. The iPod is also full compatible with iTunes' hugely successful music store. On Macintosh computers, there is additional synching power, with the ability to transfer information from iCal, your Address Book, and Notes to your iPod.
