I love music. Everywhere I go, I surround myself with the sounds of new music. I've had a personal audio player for over 30 years, starting with the miniature AM radio I walked around with as a kid, graduating to a Walkman cassette player, the a Walkman CD player, then on to digital music devices.
I write a music weblog, and am occasionally asked to try out products. I have had the pleasure (and displeasure) of using (and occasionally owning) many personal mp3 players. None have the combination of form and function that the iPod has. With 40 gigabytes of storage, I can travel around the world and never hear the same song twice. The iPod's elegant interface lets me change songs with one hand and eat a sandwich with the other. iTunes is by far the best software interface for a portable music player, or I can drag and drop songs onto the device. Also, the ability to use the iPod as personal data storage has let me remove the keychain flash memory products from my keychain. Most importantly, the sound from this little box is amazingly good (and that's what you buy one for).
The cons to the 40 gigabyte iPod are few in my book. I'd like some more flexibility in audio codecs. I often download live shows in both SHN and FLAC format, and neither are playable on my iPod. Other than that, the iPod is as perfect an electronic device that I have ever seen, and I am a true gadgeteer.
