An alternative (Reply to this comment)

I used to own a Sony Minidisc model MZ-R900 before selling it for an iPod, sadly. I liked my minidisc so much, i kept a few discs (i didnt tell my buyer) and one of the spare batteries because i knew i would come back to MD.
And did I? Yes, the iPod is no more, and ive got a Sony MZ-N910, lasts me up to 100 hours, and around 40 hours on one small rechargeable gumstick battery. It will download music from PC, also has line in for live recording and is smaller, thinner, lighter, and less expensive than an iPod, as well as far more versatile. And in terms of sound quality, it is the best in portable electronics. The downside? Each disc only hold up to 4 CDs at a low sound quality, or 2CDs at almost flawless sound quality. But, that being said, having the most reliable device, is a godsend. :)

Problems with Apple Support (Reply to this comment)
by mesawolf
read Dennisma's review of the apple product and am forced to agree wholeheartedly with his opinion of a good product let down by some of the worst technical support and customer relations ever. I too had a huge problem with Apple's people, my ipod started to refuse to connect to any computer and eventually began to restart any computer that it was plugged into, so I sent it away to apple to be fixed through their internet site. It still being under warranty, they agreed to fix it for free, however, due to the fact that I was just finishing my A-levels at school, I delayed sending the ipod to them as I was too busy to worry about it. Eventually school finished and I left Edinburgh still not having sent my ipod. I then sent it to them from a friend's house in London, and called apple asking for my return address to be changed to where my father was working at that time. Apple said no problem let me just change it here on our computer and we'll send it along when its done. However, such was not done; instead the ipod was repaired in due course and shipped back to Edinburgh. However, not knowing this, I called Apple to confirm when the ipod would return and was told that it would be shipped to me where I was (I gave them the address again just to make sure) in two days time. Three days past and with no sign of the ipod I call up UPS who helpfully inform me that it was delivered to my school. Apple did not change the address like they said./ Fine I thought, I did make it difficult by changing address I'll just call Apple and see if I can get it sent down to here now. After about two hours on the phone, someone finally says that yes, they made the mistake, not registering the change of address and would send it to me. Another three days pass and the sole person still on duty at the college says that no the package has not been picked up. I call Apple again and am told that they had no idea about what I was talking about cue a further two hour discussion and another promise I call Apple the next morning and someone tells me that they are going to pick it up later that day. Just before the college closes I call them again and find that the package is still sitting there. Apple is called and claims no knowledge of what I'm talking about, I proceed to tell them at length just what I'm talking about and extract another promise to pick it up as its their fault. Once again nothing happens the next day and I call apple first thing the following morning, to be told that once again they have no idea of what I'm on about and that I should probably arrange to have it picked up myself by courier for about £40 and Apple will reimburse me. Deciding that to do so would mean I'd never see the money owed my family gets involved and insists Apple picks it up. Another phone call and a lot of arguing later they say they'll definitely pick it up and are sorry that we were openly and blatantly lied to by Apple employees. Finally, about 21 days after my ipod goes away, I get a call from my college saying that it has been picked up. I'm expecting it this Monday, but will never never use Apple support or buy another apple product again. I've spent at least 12 hours spread over 21 days talking to Apple and listening to their god awful hold music and have been lied to by at least a dozen apple employees. Also, of perhaps 7 people who took my number and promised to call me back, three did, one of whom I missed and they never tried again, one who lied, and finally the one saviour amongst the gorillas working there who sorted the problem out. That is my bit*ch with apple and the reason why I recommend the Zen Xtra just in case your ipod happens to break down
