| dglickstein's Full Review: Asko W6221 Front Load Washer |
I purchased the Asko 6221 washer and Asko 701 dryer primarily because I was sold on the concept of using less energy, less water and less detergent. I also liked Asko because it was one of the few companies with a front loading washer (now most companies offer a front loader).
These two machines were more expensive than others that I could have purchased. I paid about $2,000 for both. In addition, I knew going in that service on these machines would have to be obtained from someone other than the company from which I purchased. Luckily, other than having to replace a belt in the dryer, these machines have run relatively trouble-free for over two years.
My major complaints of the washer and dryer are:
1. Small load capacity: it uses less detergent, less water and less energy, however, I have to run more washes because of the smaller capacity with this front loading model.
2. No cold temperature: 85 degrees is the coldest temperature setting and this can be a problem for delicates and colors. Cold wash reduces fading and bleeding.
3. Everything comes out wrinkled: No matter if I pack it full or put less clothes per load, clothes come out of the washer wrinkled. The manual suggest putting as much into the washer as possible, however, the service repairman who replaced the belt in the dryer said that larger loads cause too much wear on the machine and the machine doesnt work as well.
The bottom line is that it now takes me twice as long to do the laundry as it used to with my old, top loading washer and regular dryer. In addition, the dryer takes longer to run, even though the clothes come out less wet than with other washers (due to the high spin speeds).
