I paired these up with a couple of different amps as well as auditioning them at the store that i purchased them from.
The first thing i noticed about these speakers compared with similarly priced JBLs and Mission speakers at the store was the detail. The sound reproduced was extremely crisp, and the soundstage was wide and engaging... and these things only cost me $200CDN!
I was very impressed and at the price they were at(on sale) I couldn't even find anything nearly as close. They are rated down to 60hz and you can defiantely tell there is a lack of bass. That was another of the things i had noticed while auditioning them.
I have them paired with an old Nikko amp right now, but prior to that they were tested on my home theatre system with a Yamaha RXV-730 Amplifier. The speakers didn't have the same depth and transparency as my Klipsch RF-1's, but they did perform exceedingly well. I bought these as alternatives to Computer speakers for my computer.. they now sit beside my monitor and play music from my sound card. Unfortunately since the source isn't all that great they don't get to be used to their full potential, but I have heard what they are capable of.
They seemed to be better for producing Natural sounds such as violins and pianos and such, while lacking the intensity often associated with harder music like rap music and Rock. I'm not a big time audiophile, but I know what i like and these are great for playing my Classical tracks, even off MP3's on the computer.
I found that speaker placement was also important wit these. I have them very close together but I tried placing them further apart, with a slight toe-in, and wow.. what a difference. The soundstage multiplied by 10! (well, not quite, but lots!) Unfortunately the way my desk is set up I cannot keep the speakers that way, and really do not do the speakers justice by their placement.
Overall i would really recommend these to someone who appreciates quality sound, and not so much just LOUD speakers.
