| jegssr's Full Review: Averatec SL3150HD-01 PC Notebook |
I was looking to replace my deceased Compaq Presario 1200XL laptop and didn't want anything physically larger. The Averatec is less than half the weight, one-third the thickness, is stronger with a magnesium case and fits my needs perfectly. The Athlon 1.6 processor provides plenty of speed, the drives are perfectly suitable for my needs, the battery life is really 3 hours! The Averatec suits my transportability needs and serves as an excellent platform for my GPS program when traveling. I had looked at the small offerings from Sony, but didn't want to spend two grand for a laptop. Besides, the last Sony I bought was flimsy and unreliable. The Averatec is one tough notebook and the less than $900 price at Sam's makes the Averatec one of today's true bargains. I would recommend it to anyone who values portability over maximum screen size. It has one caveat: the flip-out modem jack is plastic - not magnesium - and breaks easily. I glued mine back with Loctite Plastix glue and it works fine.
