| kypnua's Full Review: Belkin ErgoBoard Pro (F8E887-BLK) Keyboard |
This is a great keyboard. As a computer programmer, I am extremely picky about tactile feel and key layout -- perhaps too much for my own good. So here's why this is the best keyboard I've ever found:
1. Ergonomic.
2. Black.
3. USB connector.
4. Soft tactile touch, without feeling "cheap" (like an Adesso keyboard I tried). I also have a Belkin F8E208-BLK keyboard. That keyboard feels like it takes a lot of work to press a key, and sometimes the the Shift and Alt keys stick. Belkin seems to have made huge improvements with this model.
5. Relatively quiet -- a byproduct of the soft touch. Again, the F8E208 is very loud. Huge improvement here.
6. NO power key to accidentally bump and wipe out your work.
7. NO oversized ENTER key. I hate it when keyboards make a huge Enter key and stuff the backslash into some remote corner of the keyboard. To me, the backslash belongs next to the bracket keys, right above the enter key.
8. Contrary to what pictures suggest, the space bar IS split.
9. No multi-media keys. I've never seen a mutli-media keyboard I like. It either makes the keyboard to huge, or they cut the size of the F-keys in half, which also drives me crazy.
One small con. Rather than putting the Print Screen, Scroll Lock and Pause/Break keys in the F-key row, they put them in the normal Insert-Home-Page Up row, and bumped those other keys down a row. So the first couple of days I had the keyboard, I quite frequently hit "Pause" instead of "Page Up", and then I'd wonder why my cursor wasn't going anywhere. My hand had to get used to the decreased distance. However, this is still overall the best keyboard I've ever used.
Now that I've exhibited what a nerd I am, and how I put way too much thought into things like this, I'll stop. But suffice it to say I have 2 more of these things on order so that I can have one at each of my computers at home plus one at work. (I know, USB was made for portability. But I only have back-side USB ports at home, so it is not terribly convienient.)
