uhda's Full Review: Belkin (F5D6231-4) Wireless Router
If you are looking at a cheap wireless networking solution, then this is it. But if you want a WORKING solution, then use another product!
I purchased this for its price and had problems right from the get go. While connecting it was a breeze (after all that was needed was just connecting the wires), the setup was a nightmare. First it had a problem with my RCA cable modem. My connection speed dropped drastically when I hooked up the router. (To confirm that the modem was fine, I disconnected the router, connected the PC directly to the modem and noticed that there was no degradation in speed).
While going through the setup menu, I also noticed that there was a typo in one of the menus. While I expect that of BETA products, I do not expect that in hardware products, specially when I paid for it!
I had to contact customer service for help in setting it up. While I had to wait for a while to get through, the customer service rep I spoke to, was informed and helpful.
After the router was set up, I was unable to access the network with a Belkin PCMCIA card. The router setup screens were not helpful in analyzing the problem. Moreover, when I tried to setup an encrypted network, the setup kept reverting to an unencrypted format.
All in all, while the low cost is a good incentive to purchase this router, the setup more than makes up for it.
