Pros: Rare false alerts even with POP turned on. Ability to turn off certain radar bands.
Cons: Wish that Bel would package with a soft case, and a hardwire kit.
The Bottom Line: Great radar detection range. I would recommend to anyone who has a need for a solid performing radar detector that doesn't false constantly.

I have owned several different radar detectors. I think I have finally purchased one that meets my needs. I live next to a major airport. The wind sheer detection at the airport provided my old radar detector the Bel 880 problems beyond belief. The detection range on my Bel 880 was satisfactory, however, the laser warning was constantly going off while driving home. So I looked at which radar detector offered the best detection range and I came to the Bel RX-65. I found some reviews that question the ability of the RX-65 to detect laser, but, come on, the only use for laser detection is to tell you that you have already been issued a ticket. Also that is the reason that I purchased this unit is that I can turn off the laser detection when driving around my house. As for the detection range on this unit, I have found it to be excellent. The only thing that I really don't car for is the Geiger characteristics on this unit. It does a poor job of telling how far the source of the radar is. Often times the unit will report the signal strength on the low side. Either that or the Police have turned the gain way down on their radar guns as I have only found this problem on the the Ka band. I have not noticed this problem on the stationary K band speed signs. I am tempted to turn off the X band here in Minnesota as then I would virtually have no false alarms, however, I will wait until I am sure there are no true X band sources. If laser detection is your primary need I would recommend either countermeasures which are illegal in Minnesota, or the Valentine one if you can put up with all the false alarms.
