dus10's Full Review: Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector
This is a great unit for those that don't want to spend the V1 premium.
I first bought a V1 when I bought my wife her car, and when I bought my new car I gave into the marketing hype and purchased the RX65; partly because of some of the tests that I read on the Internet but mainly because I didn't feel like spending another $400 for the V1.
The RX65 is a great unit and very easy to use. It's just as sensitive as the V1 and vice-versa (I've tested them both out together)and it seems to have a slightly better filtering system as far as cancelling out false alarms. It's completely customizable and upgradeable which is nice; I turned off the "X" band and the "POP" due to a lot of falsing; cops around here don't use POP yet but the POP was always going off and making me gun shy so to say.
Another area where it beats the V1 is the ease of identifying radar bands. It will vocalize what band is being detected and will digitally display what band and it's strength. And for the tech junkies it will even display the actual freq. if you want it to and it has the capability to display multiple bogeys and their individual strengths.
Another cool feature is that it uses the same type power cord that a V1 uses (a standard phone cord) so I bought a V1 hard wire kit and hard wired the unit into the light in my roof liner. Very neat and tidy.
So why am I switching back to a Valentine 1 you ask? Simply, I miss the "Arrows." After living with a V1 for awhile you get used to it displaying the direction the radar signal is coming from and you yourself can decipher whether it's a legit signal or a false one (any signal coming from the side is no threat and about 70% of signals come from the sides.) The V1 is also very good at tracking multiple bogeys and pointing at which one is the most eminent threat. Soon after I purchased my RX65 I noticed that I felt more insecure when getting on the freeway while the detector was going off. The V1 would point out the direction of the signal and it allowed me to see if the signal was behind me, in front of me, or off to the sides where it didn't matter, the RX65 just beeped and I had no clue where the bogey was coming from. I missed the arrows.
