| JMNS's Full Review: Bissell 1698-1 PowerSteamer ProHeat Plus Upright V... |
I had pining after a Bissell self-contained deep cleaner for quite some time. I had a Bissell canister steam cleaner for awhile and did not care for it because of the hoses and the mess it always was to put it together and then away. (please see my review on the Bissel canister steam cleaner ). So when my husband bought me the Bissell Power Steamer for Christmas last year- I was in heaven!
First of all, the thing I like best about this product is that it is self contained and there are no hoses or tubing running this way and that, causing a mess. It takes all of 5 minutes to put everything together to clean the carpets.
The Bissell Power Steamer is a very sleek black color. It has a rotating brush head, much like that of a regular vacuum cleaner, that is very effective at beating out and lifting up the dirt in the carpet. The Bissell Power Steamer also comes with a pro-heat button. This allows you to keep the water heated while you are shampooing the carpet. The pro-heat button is a nice feature, but not entirely necessary as you end up using all of the water right away before it becomes too cold.
The Bissell Pro-Heat Deep Cleaner is a breeze to use. First you release the handle and lay it all the way to the ground, whereupon you pull out the water resevoir/bucket. The lid of the bucket lifts off easily to fill with water by just rotating the handle on the bucket. The bucket has a flexible plastic "bladder" that you fill with hot water. As the clean water is used, the bladder shrinks and the dirty soapy water fills the space in between the shrinking bladder and hard plastic of the water bucket. It is fun to watch the tank fill up with dirty water. The method is so ingenious- no reusing your dirty water, both are kept separately.
The deep cleaner has a small tank that you place the Bissell carpet cleaning shampoo in. You have three options of how to use this section- water only, which shuts the soap off; mild traffic or heavy traffic. I tend to use the heavy traffic setting a lot as I have light colored carpets. The only drawback of using this setting is that it seems to go through the soap very quickly. I do like the water only setting as it allows me to go back over the carpet and "rinse" out any residual soap after I have shampooed the carpet.
The other nice feature of the Bissell Pro-heat deep cleaner is that it has on board tools for cleaning upholstery or stairs. These tools are nice and I have used them on occasion. However, the on board tools do not have a rotating head or beater brush, so in my opinion don't clean as well.
I have found that the Bissell Pro-heat Deep Cleaner lifts out about any stain imaginable and leaves the carpets looking and feeling fluffy and smelling very fresh. I clean my carpets every 3 months and it is so gentle on the carpet that it doesn't wear down the fibers of the carpet by frequent shampooing.
I found the Bissell to be no heavier than other deep cleaners out there on the market. It is definitely worth it's weight and will save you a bundle of time and money instead of hiring someone to come out every time you need your carpets cleaned. I guarantee that the Bissell Pro-heat Deep Cleaner will pay for itself in at least one to two cleanings!
