| LoreenP's Full Review: Bissell 1698-1 PowerSteamer ProHeat Plus Upright V... |
We moved into our new home last October, only to smell the faint odor of dog urine. Nice, huh? Old owners didn't even clean the carpets before they moved. Anyway, I had been borrowing my friends Bissel Steam Cleaner, and the task of taking it back and forth was a real hassle. After searching around and finding a remarkable price, (Overstock.com) we went for it. I anxiously awaited the arrival of my new steamer. I knew it had more features than any basic model, but didn't realize how many more. Fed Ex dropped it off and I hurriedly opened my package and assembled the misc. parts attachments to the back. I was ready! Well, I made a big mistake my first go. I didn't read the directions, and I ASSUMED this steamer filled the same as the basic models. Basic models, you mix your solution right with your hot tap water. Not with this model. There is a seperate bladder on the front of the machine that blends right in with the unit. Anyway, I went and tried to steam my carpet. Nothing. No solution came out. I was frustrated, wondered what happened, spurting negative notes about the company. Then...I read the instructions. Silly me, solution is seperate. So had to dump the water bladder (didn't want to double up on my solution and get tacky carpets, you know), refill with strictly water, and fill the solution bladder. Voila! That bad boy was steaming away. I was able to do a larger area than the basic model, but was disappointed when my solution ran out. I ofcourse wasted half of the trial size bottle the first go anyway.
This machine has many features, you can strictly use hot water (for a rinse cycle) normal traffic wear mix, or super muddy area (not the technical terms, just laimens). On the back is a button for heating up the unit. What it actually does is send heat down through the bottom to heat the rugs, I think. The unit gets right up to the baseboards, so no more 2 inch undone lines! There is a bare floor attachment, as well as this wild super scrubber that comes with select models (mine has it!). The super suction really brings up the carpet pile and gives a very clean, fresh look and smell. Use the allergy solution and you will sneeze less, especially at night!
