| dadooooooo's Full Review: Blaupunkt Casablanca CD51 Car CD Player |
Purchasing a Blaupunkt Casablanca receiver and changer I did assume I was going to get a great receiver with great features. This may be a great sounding and good-looking receiver, however Blaupunkt's design team is neglecting some important basic features that we might expect.
-The first noticeable annoying thing was the display. Don't let the picture fool you. During the day it is faded and hard the read and at night there is too much bleed through and hooking up the dimmer control does not help much. It only looks good when the lighting is right and only if you're seated at the correct angle... both conditions need to be met.
-Second, the clock is not option to stay displayed while you're using the radio. Actually this does not really matter due to the fact that the display is not clearly legible most of the time.
-Third, I went through the trouble of naming my first ten CD's in the changer (which you only get seven characters) ONLY to find out that I cannot search by name. Call me crazy, but I thought the main benefit of naming the CD's is so that you can easily reference them by what you labeled them and not by DISC#1 through DISC#10.
-Fourth, I think Blaupunkt is the only company that is behind the game in the CD text feature. No CD text here.
-Fifth, I am still waiting for the cable to be available for the telephone audio in.
-And finally, having a convertible, the "speed dependent volume" feature also attracted me to this product. Unfortunately, I am having trouble finding an installer who knows how to install it on my particular car.
All in all, the receiver looks great in my car (under certain conditions of course) and it sounds great, but every time I look down and try to read the display to change the station or change a CD I am reminded that I have been more pleased with older receivers. With every use, I am closer to putting my stock receiver back in and selling this Casablanca receiver and changer on an online auction.
This receiver has a successor... the Casablanca CD51. If considering this product make sure you have the option returning it.
