8/2003 The old Maytag Dishwasher that came with the house was so noisy that you could not have a conversation in the kitchen while it was running. I should say sterilizing as you had to wash the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher, but then the unit was 15 years old. We head off to Sears Appliance for their one-year same-as-cash deal. The Bosch SHY66C looked very nice. The sales guy turned it on and it was very quiet. Had water not been dripping from the rack when he opened the door, I might have thought he was kidding. It was expensive, but fit all the other criteria. Stainless steel, hidden controls, many adjustable racks, and Bosch makes good tools- why not appliances? Bosch did not have the installer in-mind when they laid out the power, water and drain connection ports.

All of these have a wire or hose that connects in the front and has to run under the unit and out from the back. Why not have the connections in the back? It worked great! There is no dry cycle exactly but the evaporative drying works well and allows me to put 'the good knives' and wooden handled items in without fear of them getting scorched and cracking. The adjustable racks and tines took some getting used to but were working out great.
11/22/03 A full load of dishes and no water. Maybe it did not seal right or something. Again, LED but no water. Great! Thanksgiving week and I am washing everything by hand. I have had bad experiences with Sears repair, and since I would be using my Bosch warranty, I called the Bosch customer service line. They gave me the number of a local repair man. He was very nice and could be out that Friday, 12/12/03. Cool, I thought, even if he has to get parts, it should be ready by Christmas week.
The first thing we notice is there are no longer any lights. He tells me the main board (motherboard?) is burnt out and, sure enough, you can smell that electric train/blow fuse/electric fire smell. He has to order it and it should take a week. He likes Maytag and would not recommend a Bosch. I ask where he was in August and we laugh.
12/22/03 I call. He still does not have the part and the part has to be ordered from Asia as the regional supplier is out of them. I guess they have rapid parts turnover.
1/9/04 The guy calls, he has the board, and can be over in an hour. Not the problem. Now it drains and has lights but that is it. Motor is burnt/blown out and this damaged the board. He calls the supplier and they tell him they have a motor kit as Bosch has had many problems with them. He tells me they ship in 2 days to 2 weeks. Again we laugh.
1/29/04 Right on time, he shows up, pulls out the whole unit, installs the motor and it runs just fine...for now.
