| elmo1972's Full Review: Bosch WFMC 3200 Front Load Washer |
I just got this washer yesterday. I am not too thrilled so far. On my second load I had the E04 error described above. The customer service line said I put in too much detergent-- I used HE detergent, and put in the amount it said on the bottle.
This was a crisis for me because I bought the new w/d because the old were broken and I have houseguests coming today. I have PILES of laundry with three kids and I needed to wash sheets and towels for my guests. So I kept trying to get it to work-- cust service eventually told me how to open the door (there is a release inside the little circle-- pull the string on the right) and I took out the old laundry and bailed out the water, etc. Still got the E04 error. (And you have to run it through the cycle again before you know it works-- takes a long time-- cust service says to add fabric softener to reduce the suds.) Note: Running on the Quick Wash 25 cycle is faster.
I decided it really wasn't a sudsing problem-- hose was clear, after several attempts to do a load (and then bailing, since I assumed it was still a suds problem) the water didn't even look sudsy. I decided it was a draining issue--water level didn't seem to change in the machine.
Finally after 4 phone calls to customer service (and they aren't very helpful-- kept informing me this was my fault and I would have pay for a service call-- not a lot of useful info there other than how to open the circle on front and release door) I did internet research. I found the post above that explains clogged drain (Thank You!) I found the drain area-- it's the big black circular thing inside the little circle-- you can take the front circle off by putting a paperclip in little hole and then turning the circle, and then the front of the big black circle unscrews. Be careful-- lots of sharp metal in there!! I got it open and the water drained out all over my floor (there was no way to catch it since the big black circle is not high enough to put anything under it.) I don't have pedestals. Anyway, one of my daughter's socks was in there. She is age 2-- she is not an infant anymore so they are not THAT tiny. So I guess I have to wash her socks in a mesh bag from now on? What a pain. But, the good news is that now the washer is working and I have been doing laundry successfully.
Second problem: these units are designed to be installed so that the washer is on the left of the dryer, or the doors are in the way of transferring the laundry. My units are the opposite because of how my laundry hookups are set up (I live in an old house so maybe my hookups are installed reverse of normal?) I read the manual and it looks like I can get the installers to come back and reverse the door on the dryer but the washer only has one option. Needless to say, this is quite annoying. But it's probably my fault I didn't realize this problem.
Lastly, the capacity on these is not huge. They are smaller than my old Whirlpool agitator ones, which is my comparison. I was thinking they would be bigger than this. I tend to like to do a lot of loads with different settings so I think it will be OK, but I'm concerned laundry will take me forever to complete since the cycles are so long. However, I'm hoping this will be easier on my clothes. I previously (three houses ago) had a kenmore front loader and my clothes seemed to last a lot longer and come out cleaner. The w/d that came with this house were older Whirlpool regular agitator types, and I think (in contrast) it was quite hard on my clothes and stains didn't come out very well. (Problem because my kids clothes are always stained!)
Both units are very quiet and dryer seems to be quite gentle. With the high spin the clothes get wrinkly but I bought some "dryer balls" when I was at store buying fabric softener (recommended for suds issue described above) and they seem to help fluff things up but make the dryer louder.
