fecund's Full Review: Bose Acoustimass 6 III Speaker System
People must be kidding themselves when they expect a system like this to make a competent home theater system. If you like to hear music at its best in a narrow frequency range at low volume these are the speakers for you.
Its been a while since I've listened to these speakers, so the exact problems are not fresh in my mind, but they were awful enough to leave this bad impression:
If people could hear this system side by side to just about anything else they would hear the deficiencies in these speakers immediately. Something a salesman won't often do.
The speakers totally missed the mark for me when I listened to them. Mid-range was non-existent. The sub sounded the exact same no matter what frequency it was trying to produce and it didnt meld with the satellites very well. The accuracy of these speakers was also very poor, they tried to get this little driver to produce a broad frequency range, the result is a muddled sound and no presence what so ever. Not only that the amp that drives them is harsh and will kill the subtleties of most classical music. I also found they were inadequate at producing at a sound field large enough for home theater.
I can almost guarantee you that if you buy these and take them home and listen to them for a while(a month) you will hear exactly what Im talking about. Bad speakers will wear you down, much like setting the treble to high on your stereo. It sounds good at first...but then you realize you made a mistake.
Don't ever buy a speaker that you can't return in a month.
If space is a concern try something like wall mounted speakers or a nice bookshelf speaker.
