| pickle-man's Full Review: BOSS AUDIO SYSTEMS MP3-3130R Car CD Player |
I have been using this CD Player for about 2 months, and have loved every second I spend in my car.
I had been using the stock AM/FM stereo in my car, when I saw a cheap MP3 CD player on sale at a local Flea Market. I had no intension of buying a used MP3 player with no chance of return or service if I had issues with it, but it sparked my interest and I started looking around at CD Players with MP3 capabilities. I ended up buying the Boss MP3-3103R because it was a really good price and I could get it shipped from a place inside my state so I would get it the next day.
Okay, so it's a CD player. It's a great CD player. The sound, even through my stock speakers, is really clear and really solid. 50 Watts per channel is plenty of power. At 40% power it is loud enough to block out traffic sounds and make passengers cringe a little.
The radio is a radio. it works fine, and has 30 station presets, which is useful if you travel through a bunch of different areas. There are sets of 6 stations, 2 for AM and 3 for FM. I live in one town but visit another enough that I have one set of stations for each on the FM dial.
The MP3 playback functions rock. It has repeat and random functions for both MP3 and regular CD tracks. Beyond that it does all the things you would expect it to. If your files are in folders it seeks them out. If they have ID3 tags with the track number, artist or song title it feeds those across the screen. It plays MP3 with whatever quality you recorded them.
The pre-amp outputs and the aux input are standard RCA plugs with covers. Very easy to deal with and the covers will keep the connections clean until you are ready to use them.
The faceplate it well designed and easy to remove and replace. There is also a little red "anti-theft" light that you can see when the faceplate is off. Makes your car look like you have an alarm. Pretty neat. Not going to deter a real thief, but it helps keep honest people honest.
The screen isn't amazing, but it does everything you need it to. It shows the file name of MP3s as well as the CD name if you name the CD when you burn it. It also has a clock and the other standard things you would expect. See the manufacturers website for all the specs and features. Pictures really don't do this player justice. It is really a good looking player with everything you could ask for in an affordable MP3 playing In-Dash CD Player.
Okay, my only problem with this CD player was, I think, a fluke. The first one I got had issues with the radio. I think it was just defective, since my replacement unit has worked perfectly. However, as with anything, get a receipt so you can return the item. Even if it is just the guy down the street, have a receipt so you have legal recourse if you get something defective.
