| joemike's Full Review: BOSS AUDIO SYSTEMS MP3-2828R Car CD Player |
I bought the Boss mp3 2828R on Ebay. No problems there. The unit was at first sight, not really pretty, but hey, as long as it plays my mp3 discs, I'm ok.
Installation was as easy as a regular stereo. So far so good. I fire it up, it works. Good! I stick in an mp3 disc -- EXCELLENT! I'm all fired up now! I shut it off... wait a few seconds to see if all the station presets, time and track info stay. Cool, no prob with the time or the station presets, now for the mp3 disc...uh oh! It started the whole song / file over. Lets try a regular cd. Hmmm, same thing.
I called tech support at Boss and asked them why it starts the whole song/file/track over when I turn off the stereo. They told me it doesn't have any memory. While it DOES remember what track it was on, it DOESN'T remember where within that track, so it starts the whole song/file/track over from the beginning. Bummer!
That's really frustrating when you listen to books and 1/2 hr. radio comedies on mp3 discs.
Another drawback is it's difficult to read the black display against the blue backlight. The faceplate can definately be confusing until you're used to it, but the wireless remote control is sweet if you just need basic control. The remote is full function except for programming. You can access all the features with it and it's PRETTY simple, as remotes go!
If you're a techno-geek, this player has every function you're looking for, although it's not pretty. If you're not electronically inclined, don't go this route. If you're somewhere in the middle, it's a decent player for the money, but there are better out there. Prettier too!
One last thing, it does tend to skip some. Not annoyingly, but it is noticable
