| jubrismom's Full Review: Britax Bodyguard Booster Car Seat - Fun Fatigues |
Our daughter can best be described as tall and thin. Because of this, finding a car seat to fit her was difficult. She was too tall for many of the five point harnesses, and too light for many of the booster seats. We were getting pretty frustrated looking for the perfect carseat before we came across the Britax Bodyguard Booster Seat.
DESCRIPTION
The Britax Bodyguard has a very modern look. The children think it looks like a race car seat. I think it looks safe.
FABRIC
The seat is available in a few different color schemes. The one's we saw in the store were a bright primary color combination and a denim. We bought the denim. However, on the Britax website (www.britax.com) you can order additional covers. We just ordered a pink floral cover. Finding a girly looking car seat cover is rarely an easy task, so we are excited.
The fabric is easy to remove from the seat and clean, if need be. We usually just use a damp cloth to wipe clean any spills on it, but have removed the covers and hand washed them. The color did not fade, nor did the fabric shrink with hand washing and being hung to dry.
We've had the seat for several months now and the fabric has not faded.
ADJUSTABLE
Adjustable Backrest Height
The back/head rest is able to be adjusted to fit the child's height. Simply squeeze the back adjuster, and raise the back/head rest to the appropriate height. This is so simple. And, unlike some other seats, you just lean the Britax Bodyguard Booster Seat forward a bit and can make the adjustment. You don't have to be a gymnast to reach around the seat or take the seat out of the car to make the adjustment.
Adjustable Seat Width
Not only can the height of the seat be adjusted, the seat bottom width can be adjusted. Just twist the knob on the bottom of the seat, pull to widen or push to make smaller the bottom of the seat. Because the seat is light weight, we just tip it over and make the adjustment without removing the seat from the car.
We are able to adjust the seat to fit a different child in less than a minute, without removing the seat from the vehicle, and without becoming contortionist.
BUILT IN SEAT BELT LOCKS
One of the features that most attracted us to the Britax Bodyguard was the built in locks for the seat belt. In most booster seats the seat belt just lays over the childs lap. With the Britax Bodyguard, the seat belt is locked down on either side of the child's hips. This makes the Britax Bodyguard sit securely in the seat, more like a traditional car seat that is secured to the seat of the car.
SIDE IMPACT PROTECTION
The Britax Bodyguard is designed with side impact protection. The headrest is curved slightly around to protect the sides of the head as well as the back of the head. The headrest also has EPS foam to help absorb the impact force.
CHILD'S COMFORT
Brianna is six and is very comfortable in her car seat. She never complains about the seat being too hard, uncomfortable, or restrictive. The sides come out far enough on the head portion that her head even rests comfortably when she is napping (rare as that is).
My four year old nephew does complain that the head rest portion is not as roomy as his, because of the side impact design.
Miscellaneous
We have used the Britax Bodyguard in several different vehicles without any problems. Some of the vehicles we've put it in are: Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country, Dodge Neon, Dodge Stratus, Chicago Taxi Cabs, a Ford truck, and a Nissan Pathfinder. The seat is lightweight and easy to transfer from vehicle to vehicle.
The car seat came with attached ear phones. They fit around the outside of her ears. Or at least they kind of fit around her ears, they are a little large for a child. Brianna loves these, though. She plugs into her little CD player and is able to listen to her own music or books on tape. The nicest thing about the ear phones being attached to the seat is that we don't lose them.
There is a small storage compartment in the base of the seat to hold the instruction manual and the extra ear phone cording.
The seat does have an recline feature on the back, we however have not used this feature.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
This seat is designed for children weighing between forty and one hundred pounds, and whose height is forty three to sixty inches tall.
