The Bottom Line: *Consider this seat if you value your child's safety. Save for it. Ask stores to let you test it in your vehicle. Let your child test it.
My toddler & I are both so very happy with this seat. We tried various other seats & none fit her or my car nearly as securely as this. She loves the headrest!!! She relies on it when she gets sleepy & complains about not having it when she's in other seats in different cars ~ Britax Husky & Graco Platinum CarGo. Some parents wonder about visibility, but the Child Passenger Technician told me that actually is not an issue ~ the child can see just as much as out of a seat without those enhanced side-protection "wings". I love that she'll be able to use this seat till she graduates Kindergarten in 4 years!
My SUV driver's manual says I can't install a child safety restraint in the rear-middle position because the belt does not hold securely in a crash, so she sits outboard ... with my vehicle's poor rollover rating, I know she needs the best protection possible & this is it!
I've taught her to value safety: she knows why it is dangerous to loosen the straps, but that she is allowed to pull on the adjustment strap only to make it even tighter. This satisfies her desire to help out & keep her hands busy. The one-hand-crank adjust for the harness height & head rest is so easy, but she is not capable of turning around in the seat to reach it & by the time she will be physically able to, she will also be more aware of why she mustn't.
The Wizard is very easy to install & I've used it in many vehicles: Toyota truck & van; Ford truck, van & car; Chevy truck & van; Dodge van & car; Pontiac car; Mercury car; Nissan car; Subaru car ... as well as an airplane. The seat always fits very securely {although those airplane buckles are a pain for foward-facing; easy enough for rear-facing, but still annoying}. I don't have LATCH, but the seat-belt lock-offs make installation very reliable in any moving machine we've tried {LOL}
I bought this seat when my toddler grew too tall for her Safety1st combination seat before she was the legal size to use as a booster. Since the Wizard has a rear-facing weight limit of 33 pounds & the same height limit as forward-facing {49"} I decided to revert my skinny tall 26 month old back to RF ~ she was so much happier sitting backwards, being able to see out the back window & able to rest her feet {she doesn't like them dangling over the edge of the seat & wakes up cranky in FF seats}. She was 29 pounds & 40" tall before her long legs became a problem for comfort in RF ... when crossing her legs or bending them was no longer an option because the straps were leaving slightly red creases on her thighs I turned her FF {2 months before turning 3 years old}. The Child Passenger Safety Technicians told me that there has never been a single recorded case of damage to a child's legs from rear-facing beyond 12 months of age, but there have been many cases of broken necks from kids sitting forward-facing too soon & that some countries even require kids to sit RF beyond 33 pounds! In the FF position, the design of this seat still allows her feet to rest on the car seat below ;)
Even her big sister {almost 7 years old} fits this seat even though the top slots on the Marathon are below her shoulders ... the one-hand crankable harness adjuster makes this possible. BOth girls find this seat very comfortably padded & I've found cleaning messes off the fabric easier than compared to their Graco CarGo. This seat is a really great investment even if you're comparing to the Marathon {the Wizard being based on the Marathon, with the only difference being the harness adjuster & head support}
