Pros: Good software, drivers, features, Internet printing.
Cons: Slow, noisy, bad quality, expensive consumables, fussy paper feeder, doors don't close precisely
The Bottom Line: This item is probably not available new anymore, but avoid it as a used item...even if its offered for "free".

| kerton's Full Review: Brother HL-2700CN Laser Printer |
I bought this printer in 2005 to save money and time running down to Kinkos for color prints for my business. I've suffered with it for four years before replacing it, and buying the new printer was the equivalent of stopping hitting myself with a hammer. Wish I had done it long ago.
The Brother has great software and features, and at the time was a bargain price. But the consummables are very expensive. My OPC belt was broken and left streaks when brand new, and I didn't put in a return or warranty claim until it was too late. So I spent four years with streaks in my business printing because I was too angry to spend $400 on an OPC belt. I still had to take important jobs to Kinkos to look acceptable.
The case on my unit (top back door) doesn't close right, so I have to duct tape it shut or it reports "door open". Manual two-sided printing is very difficult, because the paper gets a slight bend on first print, and the paper feeder DOES NOT like paper that isn't perfectly flat.
You cannot use thick paper easily. The printer is very noisy, it clunks like a pile driver, and it is slow. I'm not sure why it's slow - the specs were very good when I bought it. Cnet raved about this thing back then.
Print quality is not very good. I can't say why, but I have colors stronger on one side of the page than the other, fading on big jobs, and other issues.
I like the fact that I can print from anywhere with Internet to this printer. The web server in the printer is a good user interface.
I can't sell this dud on eBay in good conscience, so I need to give it to a charity.
