OK for a disposable printer, hopefully you won't need customer service

Pros: Cheap printer.
Cons: Poor quality. Very poor customer service. Not really a one year warranty.
The Bottom Line: I will never buy a Brother product again. The warranty is not worth the paper it's written on and the customer service is very poor.

I brought this Brother printer in August of 2005, in part because of the Brother name. Unfortunately I started having trouble with this printer right from the start. It was printing three dots down the side of the page. I had to get a new drum before I could even use the printer. Now nine months later, the same problem. I need to buy another new drum, the old one's worn out (so the service rep tells me). The drum only has a 90 day warranty even though the printer is supposed to have a one year warranty. I don't know what's covered under the Brother warranty since the drum seems to be the only part on the printer that can be replaced. It's cheaper to buy a new printer than to replace the drum, a new printer is $200.00, the drum is $150.00 plus shipping, and with a new printer I also get a free toner cartridge (worth $50.00). You cannot buy a new drum in Memphis, it has to be ordered. So if you need to be printing on a regular basis you cannot get the part.
Customer service is not much help. You hold forever and then get a person who seems to be reading from the web site troubleshooting guide (which I had already done three times). The rep insisted I perform the troubleshooting again, which I did, and then just told me I needed a new drum, sorry not covered under warranty, that was only for 90 days, and didn't seem to care when I said I would never buy a Brother product again. I here I am on epinions to make sure everyone I can reach knows I will never buy another Brother product.
