I am a reformed Scotch drinker. I always thought a great single malt was the pinnacle of the distillers art. In the past couple of years my mind has been changed. Not that I don't still occasionally get in the mood for Scotch, sometimes it's just what I'm after. Better Bourbons have simply made a bigger impression on my taste buds, and a much smaller dent in my wallet.

I manage a bar and I carry 24 different Bourbons, most of them are high end offerings. I have tasted them all, and Buffalo Trace is in my top 10, at any price. It is smooth and full flavored. I won't try to describe all the flavors I taste, but I will tell you that it tastes like Bourbon is supposed to taste. It is smooth without being dull. It has some heat but never burns. I'll drink 20 year old Pappy or 16 year old A.H.Hirsch on special occasions. There are times when I really savor the silky smoothness of Woodford Reserve, the almost candy sweetness of Rock Hill Farms or traditional flavor of Jim Beam Black. Day in and day out though, Buffalo Trace has become my choice.
