Cons: pricey; folds in two parts; expensive accessories
The Bottom Line: Get it if you plan to walk a lot with this stroller. Worth its price. If you have storage problems, if you use a lot the subway, then not ideal.
spett's Full Review: Bugaboo Frog - Red Standard Stroller
I live in NYC, and finally decided to buy my Bugaboo Frog after months of research over the web, magazines, forums, asking friends, etc. The bottom line? Expensive, yes, but you are strolling on an air pillow, no matter what terrain, the Bugaboo is truly unbelievable, way above expectations. Beyond the smooth ride, the Frog is very versatile in all its configurations - i.e. it will last a long time, and throughout the seasons.
The fabrics are top quality and not too thick (good for the summer), and for the upcoming winter we're planning to get a footmuff (not necessarily the very expensive Bugaboo brand one). The componentry is excellent and very well designed: very light frame; sturdy weels - both the large air filled ones and te swivel ones; GREAT rain cover - fits like a glove, good for wind protection too; mosquito net; a surprisingly large underbag; very comfortable for my 6-week-old baby, who seems to absolutely love it after only a few days of use. Haven't tried the bassinet yet (better for the winter?). Great that the 2004 model includes a maintenance kit, as well as a very useful instructions cd rom (use it, you'll need it!).
What are the 'problems' with the Bugaboo Frog? First of all, yes, the price. Almost $800! I could buy almost three Technos or Zippies with that amount. Also, in terms of versatility (folding) it is inferior to the competition. It can be foleded, but it doesn't fold down to a compact unit: you have to detach the seat/bassinet from the frame. So using in the Subway will not be easy - but it is possible if you bring a bag, etc. Not ideal. Another burden is assembling the seat/bassinet... kind of a pain for some for sure (I love assemlying stuff, so no biggy for me). A smaller criticism is the canopy, that could have been designed better, with more coverage. Oh well - buy one of those universal extensions.
Bottom line: in terms of actual strolling the Frog is a different stroller, it can't compare with the rest, believe me, it's way superior. So, if you can stretch your budget, if you plan to go for long walks, power walks and slow jogs, if you don't mind the inconvenience of the fold in two parts, and if you want full comfort and fun rides for your little one, then go get the Bugaboo now. It's worth every penny and more.
