White Tea is for Me!

Written: Jan 12 '05
Pros:Uncommon, fresh smell, lasts
Cons:Expensive, can be difficult to find
The Bottom Line: Bvlgari Au The' Blanc (White Tea) is snow in a bottle.

Recently while strolling through Nordstrom's doing my Christmas shopping, a lovely display of perfumes lining an aisle beckoned my attention. Though I tried to resist, finally I gave in to the urge to sample some of the scents. Naturally I was drawn to one of the loveliest displays, which happened to be the Bvlgari table. Some of their classic scents, along with the newer green and white teas were on offer.

The white tea perfume is housed in a partially clear and partially frosted white glass bottle. A frosted plastic disc-shaped top which is rounded in silver caps it off, while a lovely embossed white label lines the slender bottle. It is a modern and luxurious, yet classic design. I purchased the spray version.

What exactly does white tea smell like? It is a fresh, clean scent, with a light undertone of powder. Mind you, it is neither an old lady nor a baby powder type of scent. Rather it is quite unique and refreshing. If snow were scented, this is what I would imagine it to smell like.

I've worn this every day for nearly a month, and I've only used about 10% of the contents. The scent is long-lasting, and I've applied it in the morning and caught a whiff of it around lunchtime. It seems to work well with my body chemistry and the scent stays intact and doesn't react negatively.

When I wear this perfume as opposed to my other favorites (citrusy florals like Clinique Happy and Escada Island Kiss), I feel sophisticated. White tea is also known to be an antioxidant. It is one of the most expensive types of Chinese tea, and very healthy. This is probably a long shot, but maybe I'll derive a miniscule benefit from white tea perfume. :) (OK, that is wishful thinking!)

Amazon.com says: Both men and women can wear this delicate, soothing white tea scent with white pepper accents, day or evening. White Tea, the principal ingredient, has been used in China as an elixir of youth because of its antioxidant and revitalizing properties. Cultivated only a few times per year, this rare essence imparts an overall sense of well being.

Sephora describes it as having notes of: Artemisia Leaves, Ambrette, White Pepper, White Tea, Musk, Woody Amber;
and calls its style: Reassuring, Enveloping, and Soothing.

I paid $49 for the 2.5 oz Eau de Parfum at Nordstrom's. Normally it runs for around $55 to 60, though.
