| Almighty's Full Review: Sony CDP-CX450 400-Disc CD Changer |
So you've managed to accumulate several hundred compact discs over the years and you looking for a way to always have your music at your fingertips. Well look no further than Sony's CDP-CX450.
While Sony is the only company producing such high volume CD players, they've obviously remained focused on product quality. The CDP-CX400 and CX450 are Sony's latest efforts into the high capacity home CD changers.
The CDP-CX400 and CX450 each hold up to 400 compact discs. While the CX400 come with a standard remote control, the CX450 utilizes an amazing two infrared remote. The remote had a fantastic backlit LCD display which once programmed, displays the artist and titles of each disc and can even display each individual track name.
The CX450 cost about $100 more (MSRP = $400) than the CX400 with the only difference being the remote control included with the unit (the CD players themselves are identical). However when you consider the CX450's remote allows you to search and select artists and songs (with an easy to use scroll button) without having to read the display on the player, I believe
the extra cost is well worth it.
The CX450 is easy to load and program. The front of the CD player has a PC keyboard input to allow for quick and easy labling of your music. Sony has included some other nice features with the unit. The CX450 has several random play options along with group capabilities which allows
you to place (and play) your CDs in up to 8 distinctive groups (Country, Rock, Classical, etc.)
The front face of the unit also includes a large CD selection dial. It along with a "+100" button allows you to quickly navigate all 400 CDs. Playing music is fairly easy although I've managed to get lost in the menu structure a few times. As you might expect (with 400 CDs) the time it takes to skip from disc to disc is quite long but the CDP-CX400 and CX450 are the only way to house 400 CDs in a single stereo component.
The rear of the unit has all the necessary connections. Not only output to your receiver, but also video out which allows users to view their CD lists and selections on their television (very neat). Both the 400 and 450 allow you to connect multiple players to your primary player (for those of you with up to 800 CDs) and control all of the CDs with a single remote control.
The player is quite large and very heavy once loaded with music. You'll want to have some significant space available in your stereo cabinet. Because if its cost, the CDP-CX450 is not ideal for people with only a hundred CDs or less. But if you have several hundred CD and get tired of
shuffling discs in and out of jewel boxes a few at a time, I'd certainly recommend you investigate the Sony CDP-CX450. And oh yeah, like every other CD player I've used, it sounds great.
